After almost four years of saying I was going to create a family blog, I have FINALLY done it! And just in time for our family of 3 to become a family of 4! So, welcome!
We are officially out of the first trimester now, which is a huge relief! I felt ok through most of it, but the nausea, food aversions and exhaustion were overwhelming to say the least. (I attribute part of the exhaustion to chasing around a VERY active little boy though) Thank goodness I have a supportive hubby (and son) who didn't mind dining out or picking up carry out. Nick even cooked for us on occassion too! (when the smells didn't drive me crazy)
The baby is doing great. As of my appointment last week, the heartbeat was 168bpm. I've only gained 3 lbs so far, and don't imagine I'm going to gain a horrendous amount, thanks to being diagnosed early with gestational diabetes. (They test you early if you had it in a previous pregnancy...lucky me!) I did feel the baby already...one incredibly crazy acrobatics routine that felt really wild, but that's it. Haven't felt anything since then. And I'm so excited to find out if Charlie will have a baby brother or baby sister on May 14th! We'll keep you posted as soon as we find out! Speaking of Charlie, he has already embraced his role as "Big Brother". He keeps asking questions, wants to get out the baby toys and other accessories and Tuesday morning, on his way to school, he told me "the baby can sleep in my bed with me. I have two pillows, so it can have one." It was so sweet and innocent. I told him that babies cry...a lot! And that he probably wouldn't get much sleep. He said "That's ok mama. I will get up and take care of it, and I'll come get you if it won't stop." And yesterday morning, while I was getting ready, he brought some veggies out of the fridge up to me, and a cup of what he called "sugar water". He said they were for me so that I could test my blood sugar. I thanked him for taking such good care of me, and without skipping a beat he said "but mama, you take care of me all the time, so it's my turn to take care of you!" He is so sweet and compassionate for a 3 year old. I feel so lucky to be his mom.
Other than going to Dr. appointments and playing outside in this BEAUTIFUL weather, we haven't been up to much here. We recently spent a family day at the zoo. It was so much fun spending the day together. Charlie's biggest fascinations this trip...the Gorillas and zoo poo. Go figure. He really is all boy!
